Why did he get offended that I didn’t let him open the door for me?

I was walking in the gym the other day. There’s two doors to it both open outward. As I was walking in I saw a guy coming out he saw me too, he picked up his pace a little to meet me at the door. It seems he was opening it for me but I just opened the other door and went in, I don’t expect men to open doors for me so I wasn’t going to stand there waiting.

But what was weird was he just stood there staring at me after the fact. He looked so offended. I don’t know if he was angry or what but why’d he do this?

It feels very much like a rejection when someone does not allow me to do an act of kindness for them. Would it have really altered your day if you had waited a few seconds and graciously allowed him to do something kind and respectful for you?

He was merely being polite and you threw it back in his face,

Just wait because sometime in the future you'll need help in the gym or outside it and this guy will ignore you and carry on with what he's doing, you want to be treated like an equal then he'll treat you like one, and don't think it will be limited to just him, he'll pass it on to others in the gym and you could find yourself isolated very quickly, and in a gym that is an easy way to find yourself getting injured.
