For the better or worse some guys are being “trained” on this tactic nowadays because they get (accurate) advice that most women hate clingy men. Trained on being a challenge.

But he can go too far though and I hope he doesn’t.

Most (though certainly not all) guys do not like games of any kind, and prefer direct, honest communication. Girls who play games are a turn off. So, of course, lots of men will lose interest in such women. What's worse is that other men will immediately (and permanently) downgrade the woman from "potential relationship partner" to "for recreational use only" and will immediately focus on beating her at her own game: by telling her whatever she wants to hear so he can bang her and dump her.

that’s harsh—let me add. i know personally some women see me as clingy, but if they imply so, then i walk away. women who want a challenge often tend to date a lot of guys at once and then pick one. that’s fine, but i like a connection, not a chase
