What does he trying to do?

There is a boy coming to class this year. When he first came, he couldn't look at me, he wanted a pen, but when I asked if I should take the pen back, he looked away and did not answer. He started socializing with the class, sometimes making comments about me. Then one day, while I was talking to the girls and they asked me who was the most beautiful girl in the class, she said to me and the girls got angry at her. Then for some reason he started making fun of me and my friends, once he even made insinuations about me and made fun of my clothes. It's like he hates me when he doesn't have that friend. He was trying to stay away from me, and when the teachers wanted to let him sit next to me, he said "I won't sit there". When we rarely make eye contact, he finds it strange and looks at me as if he's going to beat me. But he changes when he is with one of his friends, I understand that he is talking about me because he is sitting next to me in class and they are looking at me. But of course I can't hear what they're talking about. I didn't understand what its purpose was. Do you have any ideas?
