Why would a guy ghost you but not block you?

If a guy you “talked” to ghosted you after meeting… he knows I’m emotional, irrational at times and just too much… why didn’t he block me.

I sent him 3 texts…

Don't take this as a sign that he likes you. Maybe he doesn't see the need to block you. It could mean there's room to recover but if he stopped speaking to you give him some space. Since you can't stop thinking of him why not hit him up and apologize. But you wanted to be a place holder... what if your time is already up?
