Is it weird if my supervisor sends you smiley faces? He is in his late 30s.

Does he send his male subordinates smiley faces too? Is he just a smiley face aficionado? If not, it sounds like a case of sexual harassment to me. I'd let him know in no uncertain terms that it makes you uncomfortable and if he gives you shit about it, treats you worse because you told him to stop, or if it persists, I'd contact human resources and file a complaint ASAP. The only things he should be sending you are work related. Anything beyond that, he's crossed the line of what's considered professional in a work environment.

Some just do. I also always use smileys in my style although a bit less at work. I do it to indicate my mood and to make sure what I am texting is not taken to seriously or harshly. Thats not just with girls, I do it with guys and in public chatrooms equally.
