Why would a guy say he chose me over his ex and then when we break up he goes back to her?

There’s a number of reasons. Maybe he realized the grass wasn’t greener on the other side. Meaning being a you was worse than being w his ex. Maybe he doesn’t like being alone. Maybe she’s giving up that ass so until he finds something better getting ass from her is better than none at all. Maybe he wasn’t completely over her, especially if she dumped him. But he said he chose you over her as a coping mechanism for her dumping him. Could be a lot of reasons.

When we first started dating , she would be calling him crying that she missed him but he said he wasn’t giving her the time of day. Which I believed at the moment since he was always with me. But when we started having our own issues , it seems he started talking/hanging out with her again.

When we first met, he was very pushy and coming off way too strong , trying to rush our relationship and that made me want to run because I didn’t trust his intentions nor did I feel like he had earned what he wanted from me. (A kid and pretty much trying to isolate me from my friends and the world I seemed 🙄). I started many arguments and pushed him away until he eventually backed away and it seems got involved with his ex again. But that didn’t stop him from still trying to bring me back into his life …

Then you need to just leave him. He doesn’t sound like a good person at all no matter what he tells you. Right from the start all the signs were there. You should have cut him off right than.
