What would you think it means if a guy you see says that he protect his emotions because everything ends at some point anyway?

It means he's mentally and emotionally unavailable, therefore you're wasting your time if you want to build a committed relationship, and he's not to come right out and say that. He's a fatalist and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I would not get serious with this kind of guy.
