Is this a new relationship? If it is new maybe it is a comfort thing. That would be my first guess. He might feel more open and comfortable in a group of people he is familiar with. He also could be nervous to take that next step to intimacy if that hasn't happened yet. Pretty sure we all know sooner or later in a relationship being alone you get to that point where you want to get down to business. Also it could just be his personality? I don't know. Maybe he is just a social person and likes to hang out in groups. These are all just guesses. Just ask him straight up why he doesn't seem to wanna hang alone with you.
