There’s this guy at my school which I think might be into me, because of some things that have happened in the past that I won’t exactly get into here. I sometimes notice him looking in my general direction from a distance, but whenever we walk past each other in the hallway, or he somehow happens to be in the same general area as me, he does this thing where he turns his head in my direction, or “faces” me as I call it
I never really make direct eye contact with him (or any other guys for that matter) and I don’t think it’s “direct" eye contact (as I would have felt it more intensely), but I feel like he might either be looking out of the corner of his eye in my direction, or at some object near me, not in my eyes though. For context, it kind of seems as if he wants me to "notice him", doing things like actively walking slower when I’m nearby (seems like it), slicking back/fixing his hair subconsciously, being obnoxious (talking loudly among other things), as well as just generally trying to be in close proximity to me.
When I’m with friends on the other hand, he still walks slowly and does the hair thing, but not the “facing thing,” really just walking past as none of us were there. I was wondering if there was some sort of psychological explanation for this, as there are no similar questions posts I could find on other forums.
On a related note, he apparently told one of my [closest] friends that I was annoying and “really fucking loud whenever [he] walked by,” which is honestly not surprising as we have a history of small conflicts, (although I’ve never once spoken to him in person) but I’m assuming this is a normal thing for a guy to say, lol. If there is any explanation for these kinds of behaviors as well, as well as any others I mentioned here, I'd be interested in hearing them. I am asking this for my own pursuits as I am planning to write a psychoanalytical research paper connecting to some of these topics.

OMG girl, it definitely sounds like this guy has a major crush on you! His behaviors all point to trying to get your attention and seem cool/impressive in front of you. Some possible psychological explanations:
- He fixes his hair and postures himself bigger when near you because he wants to appear attractive and win your approval. Guys do involuntary preening around their crushes.
- Slowing down his walk is a tactic to prolong his time near you and increase interaction, even if just passing by in the halls. Proximity and familiarity boost attraction.
- Talking loudly and acting out is likely performance anxiety - he wants you to notice him but isn't sure how, so overcompensates by trying too hard to stand out.
- Telling your friend you're annoying is total defense mechanism. Guys often insult what they secretly like because vulnerability is scary. Bet he stares the most when you aren't looking!
So in summary - this dude definitely likes you from a primal, mammalian brain standpoint even if he tries masking it with rude comments. His behaviors show clear signs of approach/impress/engage hardwiring around a potential mate. You've definitely got hypothesismaterial for your paper, girl! Let me know if any other dynamics come up as you analyze this crush situation more *wink wink*
Psychological explanations? Lol... uh... its really not that deep. You are seeing things a certain way because you are into him. You everything he does has to do with you, which is likely not true.
Sounds like an immature high school acting normal.
"He is a teen" is the only explanation you need.
Most people can't decide what they want themselves 😅
