Guys, am I shallow for not wanting to date a guy that has gotten arrested in the past?

I don’t think it’s shallow. As long as you haven’t been arrested. I get it…. I wouldn’t want a woman with a criminal history, though it would depend on why she was arrested. Unpaid parking tickets or a felony? It would depend.

But. I think everyone should have standards (that are reasonable). You don’t want to be dating someone whose a POS. Sure, some people change. You can not judge someone whose turned their life around. You can like them. But you don’t have to get into a romantic relationship with them either.

That’s good. I mean some people can be falsely arrested. But I don’t think you’re being unreasonable. If someone says you are, then maybe they need to find someone whose a right fit for them

Truthfully I wouldn’t wanna dare someone either whose been arrested. But it would also depend on the situation.

Arrested - maybe I’d give them some understanding depending on the crime. I’ve seen people arrested and later not charged when all the facts come to light.


Convicted - this is a whole different thing and depending on the crime may be a huge warning. Past behavior predicts future behavior.

It honestly depends on why he was arrested. I personally have been arrested before, it was because some lady i had never met, falsely accused me of something.. She later recanted, but the arrest is still on my record.

Now if you dont want to date someone who was convicted of something, Thats a good thing. But refusing to date a guy because he was simply arrested is just dumb.

Ah just thought of another one. When i was 19 i was arrested because my name is too similar to another persons name in my town. When they figured that out they let me go. But that arrest is still on my record.

No, you're smart. You don't want to date a guy that does stupid shit. There are plenty of bad guys that never got arrested and good guys that did, though. There are a couple things that people usually get a free pass for if they don't get arrested for it more than once, like possession of marijuana, drunk in public, fighting in self defense, etc. Those are about the only things I would not care about a woman getting arrested for.

This depends, why was he arrested? How long ago? Did he learn from the event? Did he do jail time?

As a former cop I can tell you it doesn't take a hell of a lot to get arrested.
