Guys, are you able to play team sports with guys you hate?

Would you avoid playing a sport with a certain group of friends if one of the friends you were secretly extremely angry with? Or would you be able to make small talk with him without sounding passive aggressive?

Yeah, for sure. I had a complicated relationship with some guys from my high school. I went to school before Eminem came out, and I was into hip hop and all that…. the climate for that was a little icier, particularly with preppy suburban rich kids. I got along with most people, but there were a handful of guys who just didn’t like the way I was, so there was occasional friction.

Some of those guys played sports with me, especially football. The good thing about football is that there’s like 50-60 of you on the team, lmao, so it’s easy to just not deal with guys you don’t like. On the field…you all want to win, so you work together regardless. You probably just aren’t running over to celebrate with each other after one of you makes a big play. And honestly, I probably got over more beef through sports, like eventually someone would do something good in a game, or one of us would get the better of the other in practice, and someone breaks and is like “I gotta admit, that was nice”, and you dap up, and then you’re friends by the end of the day, lmfao.

I fortunately haven’t had any crazy situations on any teams I’ve been on over girls or anything like that, never saw serious drama, but just usual dumb shit where someone decides they don’t like you and acts like an asshole towards you. You get over it, usually. Any good coach or captain isn’t going to let that come to a head in the locker room or on the field. A team is a team, you’re going off to fake-war together, haha.

It would really depend on why I didn't like them. If the reason wasn't relevant to the sport and how he played, I would be fine. If I didn't like him because he was a cheater, or a perpetual victim (i. e., "it's everyone else's fault"), then it would be difficult and maybe impossible to get along with him during a game.

I never really hated anyone, but yes I've disliked some people... however a game is a game, and a team is a team... lol

and I do what it takes... depending on the sport, you might not even need to talk with them... both know what to do, how to do it and then you just do it

few times I teamed up with guys who, they actually hated me, or that I didn't like... or we just didn't get along but on the field it is about the group and it is about the goal, your personal nonsense usually stays out... lol, especially when I was the one leading the team

Absolutely, although I never really hated anyone but I've definitely played sports together with guys I couldn't get along with at all. We still end up working as a team. It's in our mutual interest. We didn't talk to each other much in those cases besides what we need to do as a team.

It really depends. I don't hate many people so if I hate you you are probably a pretty big a**hole. I've played basketball before with people I don't like and I was head and shoulders better than them. And after beating them in consecutive games I had to decline whooping him for a 3rd time because at the end of game two he was getting physical with me. There was little doubt in my mind if I was going to beat him for a 3rd time he was going to try to injure me.

So yeah, I'll play someone I don't like but I'm not dumb. I know when it's a set up.

In a game I focus on team play not specific people. We know every person's role in the team and we act accordingly even if we don't like each other that much. We play to have fun and win, not to hurt each other...

I've had a few people in my band over the 3 decades I was in it that I didn't like but we still got on stage, in the studio and in rehearsals together and made music without any issues!

I've been on teams with guys I disliked but it didn't take long to be able to tolerate them in a team setting.

Yes. I have many times. If they're good, you can get over it. In the moment I've grown to like some of them and made friends. Also, I've liked some of them then then realized why I didn't like them later

I don’t hate people, but if you dislike somebody, you can play against him in tackle football 🏈 and tackle him hard. That’s if he makes the team
