Why do guys suddenly pull away?

I’ve been dating my ex again for 4 months now. On our last date we had an amazing time. He was telling me how important I am to him and how he is really trying to make me feel that. He was also telling me his pov from our past and how his parents love me. I told him how much I appreciate him and that everything he’s told me really made me feel like he cared about me. Our date night went so well that it carried into the next day. Then all of a sudden it was radio silent. He wouldn’t reply to my text and we only spoke briefly on the phone for a few minutes when we would use to talk to each other everyday. It makes me feel like everything he told me that night was a lie.

Well it’s not like we broke up because of cheating or anything bad. We were both young and in college and we just needed that time apart to find our place in the world. We both learned so much during that time

Yes but in that time "finding yourself", both of you are now having different views on the things. Getting back together doesn't need to mean everything is back on track, maybe you are remembering of good old times and just triggering that "honey moon phase" and when that wear off, back to reality I'm afraid.
