What does it mean when a guy suddenly messages me after I haven’t heard from him in nearly 4 months? And what should I say in response?

It’s just means you’re a backup. More than likely he was entertaining some other squirrel. Either that other squirrel took the nut then he moved on, or the squirrel rejected him so he moved on. Now he’s back to you. You’re better just moving on.
