Yes, it’s possible for narcissists to “apologize” just as a manipulation tactic if it suits their agenda. Like something they can’t argue their way out of, but if it was a situation where you confronted them on their actual behavior, they’d still gaslight. My mother is a covert narcissist and apologizes all of the time for her “behavior” but still continues to do it. It’s also an in genuine apology. One like “I’m sorry you felt that way” or “I’m sorry so now stop talking about it”

So no, it’s not safe to go off of that they never apologize because they definitely do if it benefits them.
