Do men jokingly say "Love ya"?

This man who I am friends with for years and jokingly proposed me and then turned out, he truly proposed me. Has also often told me "Love ya". And he told me he is upset by how careless I am and not realizing how I am hurting him by dismissing his feelings. It's the first time he was so emotional, i didn't even realize he truly had feelings... I thought we were just messing with each other, joking around. What to do? I care for him, I don't want to hurt him, I had a huge crush on him years ago, but today I have different priorities.

Well sadly that’s his fault for not truly expressing his feelings to you a lot sooner , and just hinting to you all these years expecting you to just read his mind. So don’t blame yourself for not being able to read his mind , if he truly wanted you by his side he would have spoke up and confessed to you how he truly felt about you. I can’t stand when people just assume you know how they are truly feeling about you , it’s like wake the fuck up , I can’t read your mind dumbass. Sadly some people can’t express how they truly feel about someone because they are scared or nervous that they are going to say the wrong thing and blow their chances with that person. It sadly happens a lot and something that will continue to happen for years down the road. some of my friends, when we say goodbyes after in person meetings, hug me and say, "I love you, see you later," but it means true feelings... we have known each other for so long that emotions between us are strong

I'm not sure how it is for Americans, but here a guy will say 'luv ya' when he doesn't want to appear committal, but the sentiment is still there behind it!

Sometimes we're joking, but there's no shot that I would say something like that to a woman unless there was 100% no chance of us dating. Like if she was openly lesbian or something.

I am still fond of him and I care for him deeply, but he believes I am his fate… I don’t know what to do. I don’t exactly believe we are the fate.

I’ve never tried to change anyone, If I can’t accept as he is, I let go.
