Why will guys pursue a girl for so long if the only thing he wants is sex?

Why would a guy talk to a girl for months, go on telling her she is cute, pretty, sexy but he only see's her as someone he wants to have sex with. Why not just pursue a girl who is cute but also into ONS or friends with benefits? Why would you waste your time on someone not into that sort of relationship? Especially when the girl isn't really even your type? Are guys really that desperate for sex?

After the 3 months I told him I was into him. Then asked if he would date me. He said "No, I can't since I don't love people. I just show them love." At that point, I had lost all interest and was absolutely not going to have sex with a guy like that. But he still hits me up now even though I deleted him.
