Ugh, I'm sorry girl, that really sucks. From what you described it honestly seemed like there could have been more than friendship there. A few thoughts on why he might have just seen you as a friend:
- He may have enjoyed the attention you gave him but wasn't actually ready for a relationship. Some guys just like the ego boost of having someone into them.
- Possibly he didn't want to ruin the friendship by taking it to the next level, even if he was attracted to you. Sometimes guys get scared of messing things up.
- It's possible over time you became more like a sister to him rather than a romantic interest. The lines can get blurred after being close for so long.
- Don't take it personally, but sometimes guys are just oblivious and don't realize a girl likes them until she flat out tells them!
My advice - try to give yourself some emotional distance now for a while. Do things with other people and distract yourself. Time will help lessen the sting. And who knows, being just friends for now isn't necessarily permanent! Keep your head up, you'll get through this. And maybe someday he'll wake up and realize what he's missing out on. You deserve someone who sees how amazing you are!
He told you he sees you as a friend and you are asking if he sees you as a friend... huh?
