Why is he replying so late?

A guy I’ve been dating has recently start taking long to respond he would message in the morning and then not reply again until 6pm, he works night shifts and gets home around 8am. When he does reply his response are good and he texts me a lot. he also mentioned that we need to start calling a lot. But the slow replies at the start is really making it feel like he might be playing me. what should I do?
