If the girl is 40 years younger than your dad must be in his 60-70s at least. Leave that shit alone. Your parents might have some kind of weird kink you don’t know about or some kind of open relationship. I’m not sure you want to cause them to get a divorce at such an advanced age. Your dad will trot off with his young hottie while your mom will be elderly and alone unless you’re willing to take her on.

I’m sure it’s more complicated than it seems. If he is her caretaker then it’s probably become more of a task and obligation towards someone you love and respect but the romance and intimacy is probably gone. So your dad is probably in a weird place where he wants to feel loved both emotionally and physically yet he still isn't a monster and wants to care for your mom. Life isn’t black and white. There are a lot of shades of grey and while it seems sad it is what it is.

He left the chat open, I was making my lunch and the phone was left face up on a chat with a clearly much younger woman which I think is a fake profile just because he is an old man

Sigh... On the one hand, I can see that you're protective of your mom, which is a good thing... You're a good daughter. On the other hand, routing through your dad's phone is a really odd thing to do.

Yes I told her. I’ll be honest I was cooking lunch and his phone was left open on a conversation all I did was photograph it. I don’t love that I did it no, but she thought he was loyal
