Why would people assume that an introverted female coworker had an affair with another coworker?

if there were no clear signs of flirting, attraction, secrecy or anything else. I keep to myself all the time, only talk about work etc. So why would people assume that there was something going on between us? We’re not even very friendly with each other

I honestly think it’s because people like to gossip.
In big companies or offices, people get bored easily since they’re less controlled and they don’t have to always rush work, so they get spare time to chit chat and gossip.
What is better than a new potential relationship to move a bit the boring office environment?
