My guy friend is affectionate?

There’s not much to say, honestly. My guy friend has been quite affectionate with me for example:

- he will rest his head on my shoulder

- touches my hand, arm, back, etc

- calls me pet names jokingly

-leans into me when we’re sitting next to each other

obviously most people would assume he likes me but he made it clear a while back he only sees me as a friend and isn’t looking for a relationship so we’re strictly platonic.

He is one of my best friends and while there was a point I would have maybe liked more with him, I’d rather have him as a friend than lose him.

I’m just curious why he’s recently started being more affectionate, if anyone has an opinions or ideas.

Fair! He’s been single for a few years now. I don't know, I’m definitely not bringing up the topic with him but I just found it bizarre bc a while back when someone jokingly brought up the topic of us dating he was super quick to shut it down and told me he doesn’t see me like that 😂

if he's being physical with you, he likely likes you. be careful though, he might be doing that with other women too. That's ultimately how you'll know if a guy is into you or not, how he treats you, as opposed to other women

Bc I can’t handle the rejection, especially since he already said “you know I only see you as a friend, right?”. He was kind enough about it and it wasn’t me that brought it up, someone else made a joke about us acting like a couple and that’s what he said to me in response

Honestly, some friends act like an old married couple because they know each other well enough to joke the way an old couple would. It doesn't mean that there's actual romantic chemistry between you. Don't worry about it.
