Why do men want short girls?

Question

A guy i had super strong feelings for said i was “a little tall” when I asked if i was his type. It crushed me. I know im taller than him and i thought he was fine with it because…. he said he was fine with it. And several months later when he i finally got him to confess if he would ever date me if he was actually looking for a girlfriend, like if I was physically his type, he mentioned my height. I was so sad. And i wonder if thats been a reason for other men as well. He’s only gotten into real relationships with very petite women and the only times he’s been with taller girls was for casual dating. It makes me so angry and insecure. Im not attracted to super tall men and even if I was, a tall guy has never made a move on me anyway. Im only 5’7 and I've always been the tall girl growing up but this is the first time im feeling GENUINELY insecure about my height.

In fact its the first time im feeling insecure about a lot of things now, now that i have a few “dates” to gather info from. Its only now that I've had my first experiences with going on dates with men that i feel insecure about things now. I think it made me learn what “league” im in. Like it put into perspective where i fall on the desirability scale. And it’s apparently pretty low. I clocked out of dating a couple months ago because it was too humiliating. Turns out none of these men would have ever seriously been in a relationship with me. Im just over it and currently trying to accept never having a boyfriend.

But don't let that one guy make you think that 5'7" is too tall. It's too tall for him because he isn't even that tall. And he's an idiot for rejecting you over such a superficial thing as height.

5'4" is the average height of American women. 5'7" is well within the average range.
Almost all of the "Bond" girls were 5'7". And they were chosen for their sex appeal.

The minimum height for a runway model is 5'9".

So be proud of your height. Rock it. Strut it, girl.

5'7 isn't tall, I dated a girl who was 6'4 before, I'm only 6'. She wore heels sometimes too, so she'd freaking tower over me. I thought it was amusing that I had to lean up to kiss someone for the first time in my life. Also how self conscious she was about her height was cute.. plus her body, mmm.

Anyway, you're above average for a woman, but not by much. My guess is something else is the issue and he didn't want to bring it up. Either for your sake or his.

I guess it's because they like the appeal of us? Maybe liking to pick us up, hold, and cuddle us easier is my guess? Besides us being cute (we get it from everybody though). I always thought big/taller women were lucky because they at least get to have people acknowledge they're an adult, where when you're petite people always mistake you for a kid. So, then you end up with no one. If I'm honest, I do like tall women though and would choose them for my partner if I ever date another woman. I just like short men though, not the tall ones (I always find it funny how what I prefer is the other way around).

Sadly most people have set preferences of what they will accept and not accept. And sometimes people set their preferences way to high , Some of it is silly , but sadly that’s how most people are. I had girls’ reject me because I didn’t match her preference exactly , I had a girl reject me because I didn’t have a beard , , I was like Ok I’m so sorry , if I grow one would you date me? I blame social media for a lot of the reasons it’s harder for people to find someone that actually knows how to love from the heart , instead of set preferences. It’s because people have a shit ton of options these days right at the palm of their hand with cellphones and internet access , and constantly comparing each other. Thinking they deserve perfect. Not realizing perfect doesn’t exist , because not one person on this planet is perfect. So when people set their preferences too highly , they are actually limiting themselves from someone that could actually be amazing to them. Some of. My best relationships were with girls’ that didn’t match my preference exactly , but her heart was genuine which actually made her even better, than my actual preferences. So if a guy is rejecting you for your height? Be thankful you didn’t end up with someone like that , you actually dodged a bullet with that one trust me. Love only comes when 2 people accept each other for who they are and choose each other no matter what flaws each of them have. So again nobody is perfect , if someone thinks perfect is out there? They will never find themselves a partner

Strange that you feel like you’re always the tallest person because 5 ft 7 is pretty average. Well I mean at least in the United States - I don’t actually know where you’re from.

And tall is usually considered very attractive. I mean, like someone else said models are tall. I don’t think that your height is gonna stop you from dating people like someone else said a lot of guys just want casual.: a lot of women want something casual too.

You’re a sweet spot because if you wanted to wear platform shoes or heels and if you want to feel kind of small, hang out with actually tall people— you get the best of both worlds, if you wanted bc you’re not tall. which is good because that’s not what you want.

Some guys want to woman to be a lot shorter because they like the feeling of power or because they’re kind of have issues about their own height and if she’s really short to make them feel But from what I’ve seen most men I don’t really care.

By the way, I’m your height and it has not stopped people from expressing interest…It’s funny because I feel short because growing up I was super super tall and I never adjusted to being sort of average height. I’m a height now that as a kid to me looked like a relatively petite adult. 😂

Really the only reason is gender norms.

Gender norms has it that men should be tall and women should be short. Or that at the very least the man should be the tallest one in the relationship, if the woman happens to be tall. Definitely not a man that's shorter than his woman though.

For the record I don't agree with any of the above, but it's just the standards society considers ideal.

It also has some biological basis though, since on average men are naturally taller than women. Not to say that every man is taller than every woman, or that every woman is shorter than every man; but it's just the most common for men to be taller than women.

And all things considered with that, basically tallness is usually associated with masculinity and shortness with femininity.

Only a personal level I don't agree with it. I don't really care all that much if a woman is tall or short. But preferably I prefer a woman around my height, that I can easily make eye contact with and kiss. Slightly taller or slightly shorter than me is also fine, but I wouldn't want a woman that's extremely short compared to me or extremely tall compared to me. I feel it'd make things awkward physically.

But I can't change what society feels, so... yeah, lol.

TL;DR Society usually associates tallness with masculinity and shortness with femininity. I personally don't agree with it, but I can't change society's standards.

I think you're overthinking self analysis might be the problem, not your height. Even though I too prefer petite women, all of my serious relationships have been with women who were not short. I've been in relationships with women your height and I don't consider it too tall.

I think most men do prefer a woman who is not taller than they are, either the same height or shorter. So that leaves plenty of men for you to have relationships with that aren't super tall (which you said you don't like).

I think the reason most guys don't like a woman who is taller than they are is because of nature. It makes a man feel physically inferior, and men like to feel physically superior. It's really that simple.

True, height on a man doesn't always determine physical superiority, but when he's with a woman he likes to feel like she is physically diminutive compared to him. It's just nature. It feels better when you hold her or hug her or cuddle with her. A man's natural instinct is to protect, so it feels natural.

It's the same way most women like to have a strong larger man to hold them. It makes them feel protected and secure and that's a natural role for a man.

There is a dominant submissive dynamic in a man and woman relationship. It's the reason why men generally prefer shorter and women generally prefer taller.

That's a bit sad but it's perhaps more a maturity thing or that he's been conditioned in conventional culture too strongly.
My personal experience as a slightly shorted guy when I've only been with girls my height and slightly shorter. (1 may have been slightly taller but probably 30% heavier) but generally smaller.

This is a reversal of the short king (I hate that term as Dwarf Lord may be slightly offensive but much better) phenomenon most men experience who aren't basketball player types. It's perhaps an evolutionary thing that a woman will choose a larger man to partner with to experience the strength and imposing presence they appear to have while for men a shorter women may be so you can more easily physically protect/control/secure/defend/restrict etc., traits as well as potentially risk losing taller girls to even taller men.
