Why do men only ever compliment women on their looks?

That's what it is 99% of the time. Could be a video of her playing piano or something, practiced 10+ years to be as good as she is and the men are just like "your da prettyest woman i ever did saw!" and MAYBE something ancillary like "oh and you're good at piano." Does this annoy anyone else?

Goodness, yes. It's like "So after graduated Harvard at age ten, she became an Olympic pentathlete, negotiated ends to two African wars and cured six forms of cancer. And here she comes now, and gosh, doesn't she look lovely?". And I'm thinking "Dude! Priorities!". It's also always "lovely" or "pretty" or "gorgeous"; evidently those are the only three options to choose from.

I mean, I get that women place a LOT of importance on their looks, and that society does the same (you can argue which came first), but you don't do all that other incredible praiseworthy stuff without at least a somewhat better sense of what's really important.

The really depressing thing is that it's not just men, though; women do it, too.

Because females treat other females horribly — they are notoriously critical and have natural rivalries with other females, and are naturally just a bitch to one another.

Because that's what they themselves value the most; that's the most important thing for them, which is... pretty sad.

Because their looks can represent more than just their looks. They don't need to be super models. We like women who are fertile, fit, healthy, well groomed, well disciplined and it can reflect on their appearance. Sometimes we can tell by just looking at them. But if that really is a big issue, men even almost never get any compliments but we're not complaining.
