Why Partner is threatening suicide when I'm backing off?

I've started to understand I've been an idiot and manipulated by a guy. Always angry and threatening. Blaming me for everything. Financially rinsed me. I finally flipped the other day and walked out. He's now messaging and calling saying he's going to commit suicide. What does this mean from a guys perspective?

Wrong question to ask, there is no guys perspective on this since most men don't do this. Lets recap the important part of the question : "manipulated by a guy. Always angry and threatening. Blaming me for everything." you are saying your leaving someone because he is being manipulative and abusive. Threatening suicide can be an abuse tactic aimed at keeping you there. Its possible though he's genuinely unhinged. If you can alert someone who knows him other than that not much you can do but engage as little as possible, don't encourage his behavior.

If I were you and in a 1st world country, where police is more or less functional, that would be the time to snitch on your ex partner and show the suicide messages to the authorities. They'll intervene and you'll have some safety factor.

Generally when people are going to commit suicide they don't let it be known because they don't want to be caught and stopped. So the fact that he's broadcasting it is just another manipulation tactic.
