Am I an asshole for doing this?

If I notice a pattern where someone doesn't reply to my texts in a timely manner, I just stop talking to them. It really shouldn't take you 2 hrs to 2 days to respond a text on a consistent basis. It just shows you don't have any respect for me.

Maybe not an asshole, but definitely a bit short-fused for any relationship with an adult who has shit going on. I tend to judge people by the effort they put into the communication, not the speed or frequency. That's why I think the 2 hours delay might be a little too unforgiving, depending on what time of day you're trying to text them. I understand where you're coming from on the 2 days thing though; that's not cool.

If someone is a slow texter, but every message they send is thoughtful and engaging; that's better than a quick texter who says very little of substance.

speed or frequency is evidence of effort. you're not gonna convince anyone that you holds them as a priority if you're constantly taking years to reply to a text.

Well sure, but by that same token, you also have to adjust your expectations to how much time to the content of the messages you're sending and how much time the person actually has available to communicate with you. When I'm at work, my work takes priority. I'm not screwing around on my phone all day. A delay in my texts has a very different meaning behind it than someone who spends all day with their phone.

most people are on their phones almost ALL DAY. Just because you can't use your phone while you're at work, it doesn't mean most other people do not.

most people don't put a lot of effort into their texts. Its hard to type up essay length texts all the time.

I don't know if that makes you an asshole. You should cut people out, however you see fit.
But I am definitely one of those people. It has always been hard for me to do the constant texting back and forth with people. So, I have definitely taken awhile to respond back to people, even ones that I love and respect very much. But those people know that about me by now and don't take it personally.
Definitely doesn't work for everyone, so I'm sure, somewhere along the way, I've lost people who feel the way you do. But it is what it is.
