Would u return a gift back if the giver asked for it?

My friend bought a book in my field of study and gave it to me when she realized that she does not needed. It was an expensive book worth 250 so I told her several times that I dont want it but she insisted, so I accepted and was very grateful. Now, several months (six months) later she asked me to return the book as she find the images in book helpful ( when she is in completely different field and the images in book are unlikely to be helpful to her). Why did she give me a gift only to ask for it back? It felt rude to me... Should I return it.

I swear, is there any sort of etiquette taught anywhere.
It is rude to ask for ANY gift back UNLESS it's an engagement ring and the engagement ends. Tell her she is being rude and to kick rocks.

Yes. I don't want a gift that a person doesn't want me to have. But I probably would not accept another gift again. Because I'd rather not have to deal with that unpleasantness again. If they understand, cool. If they don't understand, that's ok to. They don't need to.
