Guy's Behavior

I was interested in the guy, but why would the guy try hard to avoid me and then later ask me out to a coffee, but then actually talks about nothing?

I’m sure he knows I was interested before, but he’s not being flirty or anything just talks about random stuff. Does he just want to make friends?
