How am I getting this so wrong?

Okay so context I am a shy girl, I do the usual of going super quiet especially when I like a guy and then I don't know how to act around him so get it can be difficult to read.

I was out with a group of friends, during the night my friend met up with her cousin and her friends, there was a guy in the group who was drop down my dream guy during the night I saw him looking over at our table and making eye contact with me and smiling. I presumed he was just being friendly

Later in the night as we were all leaving his friend (who is also a girl) shouted across to say I was gorgeous and he was with her. As we were leaving he hung back and walked across with me. We didn't say much together. I walked in behind him and he held the door for me, a guy came into my face to chat me up and he was holding the door for me smiling again. As we went into the bar he stayed standing near me by the wall while his friends went to the bar, again another guy came up and he smiled again

Throughout the night I would keep catching his eye but he never once tried to make a move or talk to me. (Sorry this is so long winded)

I'm not super experienced with guys and because I'm shy I really struggle with reading if it's just me feeling a vibe in my head, I'd love to force myself to make a move especially with a guy like him but I just want to be able to read even some ques that I am missing right now. Any input or insight would be so amazing- especially if he was sending signs of interest or if there are actual signs to look for and advice on what to do in the future.

When you're hungry what do you do

You go and get something to eat

When you have to go someplace in your car but you have no gas what do you do
You go to the gas station

If you have to pee what do you do

You get up and you go to the bathroom

If you're thirsty what do you do
You going to get something to drink

If there's a guy that you like and you don't know where you stand
Just look down at your feet and then look at his feet you're standing too far away walk over and say hello
And say I just want to get to know you

I already ate I already drank I already got gas and I went to the bathroom so here I am and smile.

Look he's just like you I can tell you right now he finds you attractive because I find you attractive and I haven't even seen you because you have a good heart you try to make do things right you're shy

Sometimes you just have to walk out of that comfort zone and just say hello it's not that big of a deal you're not going to fail because there is no such thing you never know what's going to happen take it on and just deal with it and smile if you want it to work it will work so don't waste any more time just do it it's New years where is he going to be where are you going to be figure it out

He might have just been nervous as well. I am normally not shy around girls but I have had a few girls that made me feel this way. I have learned that it might suck but sometimes you have to make the first move. It sounds to like he was into you from your question. I say go for it if hang out with him again.

What I don't get is why girls usually pick the loser guys that get up in her face and act like a douche instead of the regular guys afraid to ask her out.

I actually want the shy guy because that is what I find endearing, I shrugged off the guy that got in my face. I really just want to know where I stand with the shy guy so I could do something or try to establish a connection with us
