I decided to tell my friend that I felt attracted to him. I thought he would pull away because I knew he didn’t feel the same way about me, so I said I would step back first. But he said he didn’t get it and even seemed sad. He said it was funny because he didn’t understand why we would want to stop talking as friends, and that nothing would change for him after that. He completely ignored what I said. So, I guess I should just chill, right? I should still step away, right? It doesn’t make sense to me. He literally sent me to the friend zone and expects me to act like nothing happened.

I understand the way you feel I recently told a female friend how I felt about her and she unfortunately did not feel the same way. I felt like I may have to pull away as I was worried I would upset her by saying that. I don’t think you can treat it as if nothing happened. Things changed between us for sure and I know she doesn’t look at me the same way and not in a good way. I think the best thing to do is keep being a good friend if that’s what you want. That’s what I’m going to do, something did happen and maybe and maybe you should talk to him about it a bit and tell him how much you value your friendship
I suggest you try to continue to be friends with him, as good ones are hard to find. Only step away if you are finding it too awkward after giving it a chance for a while.
At least you tried.
