How do guys feel if you ask them about their past relationships?

So I am in a talking stage with this guy and I asked him about how many girls he dated he said he doesn’t know I asked what is meant by that and he said he took every relationship as a lesson and I asked I would like to know what you learnt or the outcome in those relationships if he doesn’t mind and he said he won’t and a piece of advice that I don't ask a person that type of questions and I told him fine I won’t. My main point is I just wanted to get to know him better did I say something wrong

I generally don't volunteer information about previous relationships, simply because I feel it's inconsiderate to talk about another woman with the woman I'm dating.

If she asks, though, I'll tell her anything she'd like to know, because I don't consider it rude to answer her questions vs mentioning other women unprompted.

The fact that he wouldn't tell you, even though you asked is a red flag, to me. It suggests that he's hiding something he doesn't want you to know, and that would make me very cautious, if I were you.

Normally I won’t divulge my past relationships. Not cause I’m embarrassed or something like that. It’s mainly due to them being bad choices as far as how the person turned out to be. I’m not saying I’m 100% innocent, but it took me a while to realize I was always going after women who had problems who I thought I could help only to have a few of them cheat on me once I helped them. So if anything it irritates me, I don’t want to talk about them. That’s why I don’t talk about it. Part of moving on was completely forgetting about those relationships.
