There’s this guy I’ll call Glen, who keeps coming up to talk to me at autistic social events. I’m high functioning and seem to have a lot of friends and Glen keeps trying to hit on me. I’ve got mild Asperger’s and nothing else. He’s got moderate to severe Asperger’s and a moderate intellectual disability. I’ve taken to moving seats when he orders a meal.
He recently asked me to remove my bags from my seat so he could sit with me. Then when I moved seats, he made sure he’d already ordered his dinner beforehand so he could follow me to the next table. When he does this, he knows I don’t like him or want anything to do with him but he’s just thinking about what he wants and inflicting himself on me, like a case of chronic leprousy and no one will sit with me.
He talks and belches loudly and frequently and is a real bogan. No one can stand him. But he’s starting to really annoy me. I’m starting to resent him forcing himself on me (in terms of talking and sitting with me). I know the only way to really stop him would be to play mind games with him and or deliberate cruelty towards him. I’m not comfortable with this, as he can’t help the way he is and I feel sorry for him. What should I do? Should I speak to the coordinator, or just continue moving seats? Or should I make sure I arrive later instead of early, where we’re the first two there?
