Why can't he make eye contact?

why can't he look at me when he talks to me like he will look straight ahead at opposite direction or avoid looking at me all together, or maybe just look at me from periphal view but he is kind and days nice things. and i do like him i know he used to have crush on me in high school. but I don't know if he still does

Some context is needed here. Who is "he" and in what setting does he seem to be ignoring you? The only real context is that you used to go to school together and you believe he had a crush on you. That isn't enough to go off of to say for sure but it sounds like he doesn't want contact or to engage you. I would leave it be. It also could be because he did have a crush as you said and now it is awkward because he knows that you know that and yet nothing became of it back in high school. As you can see there are too many variables and not enough context to make a more pinpoint guess. I can go on and on with all sorts of scenarios but they are purely speculation.

I used to have trouble looking people in the eyes for very long. Still do to some extent, I think. I was taught that it was rude to stare, and I used to be very anxious and socially awkward. Could be the same for him?
