Why does he avoid eye contact?

So a guy friend of mine. When I talk to him face to face he’ll avoid eye contact but when he sees me in public he’ll stare at me from afar. But every time I make eye contact when him and I are talking he doesn’t look at me. He’ll keep his head straight. Like one time we weren’t together and I was pumping gas and he was there and he had his eyes locked on me.

That's weird as hell. Why's he always checking you out from a distance but won't look you in the eye up close? A few possibilities:

- He's shy. Some dudes just get nervous holding eye contact, especially if they maybe like the girl. Gets them all tongue tied.

- He's intimidated by you. Could be self-conscious around a girl he finds really attractive and doesn't want to show it. Staring when far away is "safe" for him.

- He's sus. Maybe he looks away cuz he's hiding something, like he stares too long and might give off creepy vibes. Or he's not single and doesn't wanna lead you on.

- Cultural thing. Some backgrounds see direct eye contact as disrespectful, especially between guys and girls.

Honestly it's weird as hell. If he's your friend I'd just ask him straight up why he's so shy with eye contact. Get to the bottom of what's really up with this dude. No point stressing over reading signs - just ask! Let me know if you get to the bottom of it!
