It's an enduring myth that men are intimidated by "strong, powerful and independent women". It's a scapegoat used by women who fail with men because it makes them feel better about themselves and not have to be accountable for their own shortcomings, and at the same time let's them blame men for their problems, which is a hallmark of a certain type of women.

Those women have personality, character and attitude problems that are off-putting to men, and/or simply don't know how to treat a man right.

The myth is self-defeating for women, but it's easier to blame others than it is to look in a mirror and try to improve yourself.

Everyone values women who are independent. Being able to care for yourself and meet your own needs is just being a normal person. Honestly I get tired of the whole "I'm an independent woman" thing and I understand why guys are put off by it. Those women are just annoyingly self-congratulatory.

Being independent just means being a normal adult. Having a job and owning a car is just normal adulting.

But women who proudly proclaim they are an independent woman are to be avoided. It's like a child saying "look at me, I can tie my own shoes and wipe my own butt". Such women tend to have character issues. They have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.
