I’ve been sleeping with this one guy for about a year now. I can tell he likes me but he hasn’t really made a move yet. Anyways he has a kid and was telling me about how his son is going to stay with his mom for the next school year. He’s said a couple times that dating is harder with a kid and then after he’ll look at me. He hasn’t had any issue having me over when his son has been there and I’ve been out with him a couple times with his kid. I’m just confused on what this may mean. Also mind you, he has been asking me to come over more often as well.

He is enjoying the intimacy and companionship that you freely give without consequence. He doesn't need to commit because he already gets everything he wants without it. It seems you are the only one who wants more in this scenario, so it'd be on you to communicate your frustration and hopefully come to a conclusion where you both are happy.

Mentioning something is far different than actually going through with it. I watched my aunt date and marry a man who had an 8 year old son when they met and he was fully able and willing to prioritize her because he wanted a relationship. He didn’t sleep with her for a year still drag his feet, he made it official within months of dating and married 2 1/2 years later. There’s no good “excuse” for what you’re experiencing, it’s just what you choose to accept.

@HollyK21 You don’t know the full details of what has been going on. I had gotten out of a 3 year relationship right before meeting him and was not in the position to date anyone and he knew that. He’s very obviously prioritized time with me.

If you didn’t know what you wanted THEN because you’d just gotten out of a long term relationship that’s perfectly fine. What is the logical reason for right now? To be clear, I’m not trying to put you on the defense whatsoever— this is not me judging or giving you a hard time. But since you’ve invited our outside perspectives on this situation, I’m just telling you what it looks like. You do not have to agree.

Also just a bit of advice, you don’t have to counter every point made by someone else with an argumentative or defensive talking point — that just isn’t productive. Yes, some people on this site will tell you things in bad faith or to be flat out mean, but most of us (at least the ones with any ranking) are actually trying to help even if you don’t like the words being said. Perspectives that don’t work in your favor are not always comfortable to hear but that doesn’t make them less necessary to at the very least be considered.
