Changing his ideology (which you can't do) won't necessarily change his behavior. And one doesn't mean the other; some of the nastiest and most hostile people I've seen or dealt with have been liberals.

And I'd also want to know how you're defining "insult". We're at a point now where simply saying "this idea/lifestyle is wrong because x, y, and z..." is seen as oppressive and being mean.

The most you can probably do is just talk with him and let him know that it upsets you if he does actually insult them.

Good luck changing his mind, identity politics have rewired a lot of our conversations around it. You will need to have several deep conversations with him about what his ideal government looks like along with his ideal society, overlap them with your own ideas, start by finding the middle ground and then trying to convince him to change his mind. That last step will take potentially years if he stays with you for that long.
