Guys, Do some women make you feel edgy? If so, do you engage them or just occupy yourself and let the moment pass?

I hopped onto the train this morning and the only free seat was between two big guys. I motioned that I wanted to sit so they made a bit of space (God bless their little hearts for closing their legs to make room for me), but once I sat down they both seemed to get a little fidgety and edgy, looking my way then looking in the opposite direction and ultimately acted engrossed in their phones.

I also popped on my headphones, not thinking much of it.

After a moment, the one to my left tapped me on the arm and showed me a text, "You smell incredible. What shampoo is that you're using, or is it just you?" I looked at him to see he was beaming at me with these big eyes...

(What a bold young fellow to meet on the way to church!) I felt myself blush. "I don't understand," I said.

So he started up a convo, insisting on discovering what I was wearing/using. I was even more embarrassed when the guy to my right sighed and put his phone down looking flustered. "It *does* smell really nice. What... what is it?"

(Wow... SUPER awkward!) Personally, I didn't smell anything, but I shrugged and said it's got to be my homemade coconut balm. (A very simple thing I make in the summer to avoid sun damage, dry skin/hair, etc.) They were both sort of taken by it, which made the moment that much more awkward. Thankfully my stop was coming up so I gave them each a little smile and thanked them for their kind words.

Guys, have you ever just gotten so flustered that you felt he need to randomly compliment a gal that way? What would prompt you to do so?

I compliment everyone whenever I observe something to compliment. There was a guy I was waiting in line with about 2 weeks ago and he had some really nice eyes. I told him he had really nice eyes and he must get all the girls.

There was an older lady that I dealt with in customer service and she was incredibly patient and friendly. It was clear she has my best interest in mind from her tone of voice and mannerisms. I told her she's extremely pleasant to deal with.

Then there was a another girl in customer service that seemed to read my thoughts every time I was saying something and wasn't too clear about it. She would even give me knowing looks and smile kindly. I told her she had great communication skills and it was a pleasure dealing with her.

There was a lady I passed by (that looked older than me) walking with her mom in a grocery store wearing a beautiful summer dress. I told her "I just wanted to say I love your dress." She didn't seem like she was cool with that though and just nodded nonchalantly without looking at me and continued walking.

That was all in less than 2 hours in the same day. I wouldn't say I get flustered, but I do sometimes have a strong urge to compliment someone and speak my mind. Some people appreciate it. Some don't 😂

Ok, but I do that too. It doesn't require long lingering sniffing, you know?

I'll compliment a co-worker's hair or outfit or shoes, for example. No biggie. But not "My God, what are you wearing? It smells like ___." It was too much. Tbh, I thought that something was wrong bc the second I sat down they were both super fidgety.

That sounds like strange behaviour in my opinion. I've been seeing a lot of strange and inappropriate behaviour by middle eastern men specifically on social media recently

It could be flirting even if it’s awkward some people flirt even in the most awkward of situations I don’t know if you mean big guys as in jacked muscular or heavyset. But sometimes if they’re jacked people who are hot frankly get away with more shit from more people. Also unattractive people may become obnoxious just hoping it works once because they’re so desperate.

Starting a conversation with someone isn’t wrong. But be respectful about it

Not jacked/muscular, but tall and taking up quite a bit of space. The one to my left was tall and lanky and the one to my right was a bit broad and much taller.

They were both fairly nice looking. I mean they didn’t look like they had bad intentions. Just young and asking, but the way they asked was so bold and awkward in the cramped space of the train that I wasn’t really sure what else to say but thanks.

I understand that being awkward same here even if it was a pretty woman yes it would feel weird especially in a situation where you can’t easily escape.

I doubt there was nefarious intentions based off what you told me but definitely a better way they could have asked

Most likely some harmless flirting from the lanky fellow, but the bigger/taller fellow chimed in. Clearly innocent, but it was a little funny how antsy they both got before saying anything. At least the second guy clearly tried to distract himself with his phone but overheard the first guy speak up about it. (Now from the safety of home it's a little funny.)

Probably from what you’re saying. Yes you’re right sone people are funny or weird sometimes. There are days where you wonder “why did someone do or say that”

I cannot help but think this was a different way of hitting on you... using compliment to break the ice and perhaps begin a conversation. It seemed to fail in this circumstance since you where so surprised and off balance from his approach. However your hair concoction does sound interesting and unique.

I don't think that's being flustered. I think that's a way nice guys genuinely interact with a woman in this situation. Men can genuinely compliment a woman without making it super weird.
