Is it true that there's no such thing as a shy guy and if a guy likes you he will chase you?

For instance I've been looking on dating sites... and I read that guys are will go out of their way to ask you out... if they like you.. I like this guy I talked to him... like a conversation.. I'm usually shy so I'm trying to overcome that and I was like "Oh what the hell I will talk to him to overcome anxiety" and so I did.. But I'm hoping that made it clear I'm interested in him.. But in class I try to avoid him lol because I don't want him to know I like him... But I wonder why he's not going after me lol or talking to me? Maybe I didn't give him a chance and when he comes near me I kinda try to go away because I'm nervous around him... So I'm wondering.. If a guy really likes you will he go out of his way to talk to you? I already talked to him first.. Should I wait for him to talk to me? Or should I try making eye contact and talking to him? Or none of that... and just forget about the guy and assume he doesn't like me?

Thank you guys for your answers.. I just read on this Dating Advice Forum that guys will always go after what they want.. and I'm just wondering since he's not talking to me right away is he not interested? I don't know lol... Sigh

I'm not even sure if I like this guy I think I'm just getting desperate for a boyfriend. I need to calm myself down... Lol and be happy being single for now.

You got it wrong. You got it all wrong. Some people are extremely shy for various reasons.

Such as:

-ashamed of themselves/ self-conscious

-having been "burned" before

-geniuinely afraid of rejection

-just not knowing what to say

It's not always easy and many things can happen to erode one's self esteem.

A shy person can be very interested and not know what to say or do.

I think you are wrong; there are such things as shy guys. I for example, will observe a girl that I am interested in of a while to make sure she is the one I want to make move on to. At times, it takes months to do so. Sometimes she noticed it and got turned off because I didn't make a move soon enough but that's the risk I run.

They will go after what they want only when they are good and ready. That may not coincide with what you consider to be timely.

here's an idea, why not make the move yourself? That way, you'll know.

No, there are plenty of shy guys (just as there are women) out there.

If you want something to happen between you two, just keep trying, send him obvious signals (guys usually aren't good with subtle hints)... talk to him often, be friendly and open, etc...

You are so right about the subtle hints thing.. women think they are sending all these positive signals, and wonder why there isn't any response. Partly it is because we men can be pretty dense sometimes, and just don't get it. And partly it is because women don't see things from our point of view and realize their signals are often very ambiguous.

While it's true guys will often go out of their way to talk to girls they like, there still is definitely such a thing as a shy guy (I'm one), and I rarely chase a girl. If a girl plays hard to get, then I just assume she's not interested and leave her alone. I'd say yes try making eye contact and talking to him more.
