Men, why is my ex still looking at our text messages when he claims he likes another woman?

I know why I'm still looking (because I still love him but I can't be around him) but I'm confused about his reason for doing it. He's supposed to be in love with another woman and I haven't talked to him in months. He checks it once or twice a week. The last time he checked it was this Monday. Men, I know you all aren't mind readers, but can you tell me why you would do this if you decided to do this?
I'm not saying you would, but IF. What would be the reason you would come up with? (I'm not going to block him so don't answer with that)

He’s probably wondering why you keep going into those messages. If you can see him he can see you. It doesn’t make him less in love with this other woman and tbh it’s pretty pathetic that you’re waiting around in hopes of a message coming through. Waiting to get chosen again.
