Why does my ex text me and then ignore me?

We broke up 6 months ago, he has a girlfriend. Yet he often texts me, daytime or at night as well. He doesn't particularly say anything just send a meme. If I text back, he ignores it and later send another funny picture. Yesterday I texted back asking whats the point of sending memes? He read it and didn't reply. Hours later he sent a meme again. Today I asked him whether he wants something from me, no reply yet. 2 weeks ago he texted things like he missed me, it was good to be with me and likes talking to me. Then suddenly blocked me because I'm not over him (it's true but I told him the opposite). Now he keeps sending memes? I really hope he will answer my text normally this time but I don't know what to think or say. I don't want to block him and ignore him because that's not my style.

With past relationships, I try to keep a friendship going if possible.
But sounds kinda like he is having a conflict of emotions, both missing you and upset you and him are not together.
If you want to try and keep the line of communication open, send him Meena back, ask simple questions like how's it going, or how was your day. If you don't want to keep the line of communication open, block him so you both can move on

I don't know. I want to talk to him but maybe I still have hopes that he will text me that I want to be with you. And that's not going to happen. Right now I think I should block him but I feel like an asshole if I do that without warning him. But he hasn't read my latest text either, so...

Trying to keep communication open is perfectly fine, but you have to be prepared that he may never say that.
He might need some time too, his emotions might be pretty high as well.

May be he in dilemma... He may not completely forget u. Dont reply to him.. it will indirect message that u r engaged with some other.
