What you're calling "letting things unfold naturally" is seen as "insecure indirect communication and expecting men to read your mind" by most men.

I'm betting before there is "a lot of reassurance" there is a lot of "pouting and attitude".

Why not try communicating like an adult? Take some risks. We don't see indifference. We see nothing. And we keep walking.

Even in the early stages. Just be open and transparent. Sure, you don't need to toss a manifesto on the table and tell him your way or the highway. But, if / when the subjects come up, just say whatever you want or believe. It ain't rocket science.

But I'll give you that early on, whether it's a guy or a girl, everyone (most) will go sort of easy and just try to see who they are dealing with. That's a no brainer.
