Guys, Why fib about the number of women you've been with?

A guy claimed to have been with a ton of gals at the same time that he was starting to court one gal... but based on the guy's personality it's HIGHLY unlikely that he did much more than bling in the direction of all those gals, perhaps asking ONE or TWO of them out.

He's a Finance Bro/Tech Bro type, always hanging out with just guys... barely ever seen with any gal...

And yet he seems to have a "ladies' man" reputation because he's introduced to a lot of women but then no one "sticks".

In getting to know the guy I can see clearly that he has no swag... very high school dance "stick with the guys" sort of fellow who looks over at a gal and seems anxious af about approaching.

So I'm wondering... why lie about the number of gals he's actually been with? Is that something ALL guys do or is it this guy being odd?

Never lied. I've had 4 long term girlfriends (6 months to 3 years). 2 girls I've dated temporarily (like 2 weeks ish). Been on a few other dates that lasted one or 2 dates. Had sex (penetrative) with 3 girls. And received oral from 6 in total.

I apologize if that was TMI, but I have no issues sharing my numbers.

All of the girls I've been with have been with the intention of hopefully getting to marriage.

To answer the question though, as I realize I haven't... guys will lie about their number for 2 reasons.

If they inflate the numbers, it's because they want to come across as a guy that's desired by a lot of girls.

If they downplay the numbers then they don't want to come across as promiscuous as they are (likely because the girl looks down on it).

Either way, it's in poor taste and starts any relationship off with a lie as the foundation.

I understand. It's just the commonly accepted jargon. I have an acquaintance who fancies himself to be Leon The Ladies;' Man. I usually refer to his partners as his "victims."

People fib because they think it makes them seem cooler… really it makes you a man whore. Just like, a lot of women will lie about the number of men they been with but the opposite by decreasing the number.

People care about their public image. It just makes them look like lying losers

Guys think that it somehow is cool to have a high body count. I have a small body count its just the way it is.
