Why does he wear a wedding band if he said he's single?

Any men here wear a wedding band but aren't married? I met a guy at work and he wears a wedding band. I assumed he's married but when I asked about his spouse he said he's single... I didn't want to pry into his business and so I didn't ask why the wedding band but curious if this is a thing for another reason?

Other than that there's a possibility that he's not telling the truth? My next thought is that he's recently widowed or divorced and just hasn't taken the ring off yet for whatever reason, whether due to habit or sentiment or some other reason.

Studies and anecdotes show that women are more likely to sleep with you if they think you are married and to a lesser extent a girlfriend, a wedding band is a clear indication of this.

Yes this is actually somewhat common amongst women but I haven't seen it in men is all and I didn't ask his explanation as I felt it would be rude of me to ask without him offering. I also thought if she had passed how rude of me to make him tell me but he said it in a way like he just wasn't married and didn't understand why I thought he was lol

Lot of reasons he could be widowed he could be separated he could be going through a divorce turbulence in the relationship or he doesn't want strange women hitting on him
