Why did my co-worker not tell me where he heard it from?

I have been interning for a few months now. A lot of people don’t respect interns here in my department. I remember during my first week at my dept, this per diem guy was very reserved and firmed with me while being super nice & sucking up to only my lead who’s training me. This lead wasn’t very nice either.

The per diem co-worker never really talks or acknowledges me much when he is here. Yesterday he saw me, he had a big grin and said he heard I’m a “pro” now at my duties. I was confused where or who he heard it from. So I asked where did he heard this from. He looked at me and only continued the same line that he heard I’m a pro now. I figure he doesn’t wanna say. I felt humble and shy at such compliment. I told him I feel shy and I’m just an intern who’s still learning to be like him and everyone else here. He was super friendly which was unusual.

I really am curious where did he heard it from… was it from staff talking? A patient? Or our own director? I don’t get why he couldn’t tell me. My director did had a consult with my professor recently and told her I’ve had one of the smoothest internships here with no complaint though.

It sounds to me as if he was being a smart ass at the same time he was saying so you think your as good as me now

Maybe he was trying to tell all kinds of things. So look at it like this. Become the best you can be in your field. .. if someone is talking to you about anything that makes no since walk away because they are not a friend . They are not there to help you or teach you. And the might see you as a threat. To them somewhere down the road

People who care about you are going to work as a team and not talk crap. They will be a positive in put with you it's sounds like you need to find the good people and stay away from the bad

maybe nobody really told him that? and he was just testing the waters... lmao

sometimes, people do that so they can figure out something from your reaction

or maybe he actually heard it or saw it from some review that he shouldn't know about, or is just not for him to communicate so, either way... good thing if is true, right? lol

My dept does gossip and talks a lot about everyone. Do you think he really did heard or saw somethings that are positive things about me after all?

well, I don't know... and I don't have a way to know that and it could be many things as well

one thing is for sure... this is a complete switch in attitude and for that, there's usually a selfish-reason and by this I mean, he might be not happy about it if such change was sudden, maybe he's just competitive and grudgy about it, lol

but... I am only guessing with no actual basis

My gut feeling thought it was strange too. I had wonder if he did heard positive things and trying to be on my good side at work. Or now I’m wondering if it’s not genuine because he’s just competitive as I’m an intern and he’s per diem…

Well its been a few months since you been interning there so perhaps your reputation has been acknowledged by a mix of the patients and other staff there. So im not sure who might have said it, either way you are being noticed which is good right? Not sure why he wouldn’t tell you where he heard it though, maybe he just likes being mysterious? Lol.
