Society is rigged in such a way that you can only have certain priorities over others


Sometimes a person is chasing a goal of some kind and uprooting their current lifestyle to fit in a relationship will destroy their progress


That’s why so many relationships fail these days
It used to be simpler to fit a relationship into your life without sacrificing too much but nowadays due to sheer population size the competition is stiff for any form of success


Even if you’re the best thing that ever happened to him clearly he made a different choice

The sheer amount of options on this one.

A. He might love you a lot, but he is in a dark zone where he thinks he will also make a mess of your relationship.
B. He could be crazy about you, but realizes that somehow that he can't change you and that he wouldn't want that for the rest of his life.
C. Influence from outside? Does his family or yours actually dislikes him or you and pressures him to quit?
D. He looks financially at the entire situation and thinks that either him or you will ruin the others financials by focussing too much on gaining money, or giving out too much money.

These are just the ones that pops out.

You might've been the best thing that happened to him in a long time, but he simply wasn't as interested in you than you were in him, or interested in a commitment! That's all I can glean from his exit. If you can, ask him.

It doesn't make sense that someone would do that. One possibility is he is in a relationship with someone else and can't end it. He may also have been a player who would say anything to get what he wanted. Another possibility is that someone pressured him to end it, like his family.
