My guy and I were having a discussion. There is no doubt that men are more risk takers in driving than women. Sometimes this can lead to higher accidents. Usually, but not always, when a male and female driver are riding in a car, the man is driving. Does society make people believe that men are better drivers than women or is this something that men and women are born with. Certainly, there are exceptions. I am talking about overall.

I’d say a lot of people are bad drivers who should never be allowed to operate a vehicle ever again.
Those that have DUIs, distracted driving, and other dangerous incidents that actively put themselves and the people around them, pedestrians at harms way.
I don’t like the negative stigma of women not being good drivers, compared to us men.
Women have proven to be just as capable if not more skilled drivers than men on individual levels.
We should strive to keep the roads safe, strive to be the best drivers we can be, and try not to put ourselves and others at harms way focusing an emphasis on safety, responsibility, and following the rules of the road precisely.
I’m certain men are better drivers, but i doubt that it’s innate. Being a good driver takes good training and lots of practice.
The statistics suggest that women are better drivers, and that’s why women typically pay less for auto insurance. However, the stats don’t take certain common scenarios into account. How many men are insured and let their wives or girlfriends drive their cars? This would obviously involve men taking responsibility for accidents and driving violations that they didn’t actually commit. Even when both are named on the policy, how many times have men filed claims for accidents that they didn’t cause? How many tickets have women gotten out of for being cute or being able to cry on command?
Has any man ever pulled that off?
I, for one, don’t believe that the statistics reflect the reality. Then again, maybe everything women get away with just means that men and women are pretty close to the same. Women might take fewer deliberate risks, but have lesser skills. Men might be more skilled, but take unnecessary risks and never charm their way out of violations.
Maybe this whole debate is just another extension of the “battle of the sexes”.
I think as a generalisation most men are better drivers than most women, there are always exceptions. In regards to driving, I've found women to be over hesitant and this can cause sudden breaking and a crash. I've also found women to switch lanes without indicating which can cause collisions. It's just one of these traits males and females have like most women are great at multitasking whereas most men are not. Or most men work in construction for a reason. Most women can cook and most men cannot but most of the best chefs in the world are men.
It's not just a matter of whether or not a driver takes risks. A lot of this has to do with how a driver handles risks that are imposed by others. For instance, the guy who makes a left turn right in front of you, or the woman who's been tailgating you for five miles on a two-lane highway. Rear-end skid with a full rotation on wet pavement. Or any one of a number of other situations that require affirmative action by a driver to mitigate the risk.
Men are a lot better at managing these kinds of situations, and women tend to panic.

social bias can be a component as well, as in... for many decades, men were encouraged to be the ones driving while women were encouraged to be the ones driven, and that causes... an actual contrast based on "experience according to gender" lol

Firstly men are more interested in cars and car games so they gain more experience. Men also have faster reaction times, better hand eye coordination, better spacial awareness, more focused on tasks at hand etc etc.
All that results in men being better. You may see some idiots talking about how stats say men have more accidents, which just comes down to men driving a lot more, and spending a lot more hours a day on the road, where things can happen, animals, drunk drivers, mechanical fauls, health issues, nature, etc etc.
Womens poor ability to park already shows the difference. Pretty loudly.
Men have better spatial reasoning than women, which makes then less likely to have accidents than women.
However, men also ten to drive more aggressively than women, which makes them more likely to have accidents than women.
As far as insurance companies are concerned, young men are more likely to have accidents than young women. As men get older, they calm down somewhat, and then men and women are equally safe or unsafe on the road.
When it comes to parking, men are just better, hands down. Although a lot of newer cars will basically do the parking for the driver, so that advantage doesn't mean as much as it used to.
It depends on the woman. I learnt to drive a big tractor simultaneously to learning to drive a car. And to this date I have zero accidents on my watch. So not all women are bad drivers like not all men are great drivers. I think this saying is more of an ego thing and a fair amount of prejudice is involved.

Men are more risk tolerant (generally) than women. It results in different driving styles and responses to emergency situations. Men will react faster and not panic as much and maybe stay in control in an emergency maneuver. On the other hand, men's aggressiveness may be the thing that caused the emergency situation in the first place. Speeding, threading the needle in traffic, tailgating, running red lights, etc.
Addendum - I'd like to see the data on "distracted driver" accidents. I wonder if the data shows any gender and age correlation with phone use behind the wheel.

Males generally have better motor skills to operate machines, including automobiles. As a delivery driver with 11 years of experience I seen a shitload of women crashing into cars trying to put on makeup. dealing with kids in the car, texting, not pumping the brake on ice and snow, and just generally panicking.
it depends on how yo want to look at it. Men are better at situation awareness while driving. but we love to push limits and when we have accidents people are hurt if not killed. women are not limit pushers, so serious injury drops. but they will and do hit curbs, brush against other cars, back into things. A lot more smaller dings and dents.
I was born to drive a car. I was a very good driver and people used to tell me that.

Honestly yes, based on whom I've driven with and seen driving. Both my mother and grandmother cursed other women drivers because they were horrible.

I think it comes down to practice. From my observations men tend to be more aggressive.
