Was my guy best friend actually trying to make a move on me?

We’ve known each other for a year and a half. He is one of my best friends. He recently talked me into joining a community cruise for the day; and I went along with it, for fun. I invited a girl friend of mine who fancies him. He sulked after I told him that I’d invited her along. Sulked for two hours.

During half the trip, he was distant but on and off throughout the day, he glanced at me. He came to sit beside me on the return trip and glanced at me, then looked away and swiped his chap stick across his mouth. Then he kept glancing at me from time to time, so I commented on the water. Then after I returned from throwing something away, he was sitting, facing my direction, far enough away not to make things awkward, close enough to kiss me. Then after the cruise, he wouldn’t hug me, this time and said good bye and my name, which he’s never used. But he lurked outside the gate waiting to walk with me and caught my bus with me when my best girl friend was trying to claim him and compete with me. We all have Asperger’s and my awareness of social cues sucks.

I don’t compete with anyone. He was waiting for me, she said she was leaving with him, so we all went to catch the bus and she caught another bus, hoping he’d follow her home.

From the way he reacted when you told him that a friend is tagging along for the cruise, it leaves no doubt that he was hoping to get you alone that day so that he could make a move on you.

Also, the fact that he tried to glance at you, probably when your friend was not looking, is also indicative that he tried to get your attention surreptitiously.

The fact that this time he hugged you and said your name leads me to believe that he wanted to make sure that you understood that he was trying to be a little closer than he would usually be.

It is a bit of a tricky situation because your friend seems to have a liking for him and he does have a liking for you. That may cause frictions between you and your female friend.

Men and women can't be just friends. Its normal biology. And as a matter of fact, being just friemds with a woman is a waste of time for a man.
