Why invite me to your place if you won’t even be there most of the time?

He told me to let him know if I wanted to leave work early or wanted to hang out
I said Saturday I was definitely leaving early and he said he can pick me up. Then he mentioned that he had to do something but it should "only take 45 minutes" He said he'll drop me off at his place, and I could hang and he'll be back later. Why would I stay at his place alone if i can just go home and be comfortable in my own room?
