Why do guys clam up so much around a pretty girl?

I know this girl who is very pretty and yes, she's confident, but it's like she has this weird effect on guys. Every time she walks in the room, guys who were previously relaxed and joking around with their friends before she walked in, suddenly stop and turn all red and just stare at her. It's like they can't function and they get really award. I've seen this with her almost every where she goes, guys she doesn't even know do this. What is it about her that makes these guys act like that? The two of us laugh about it, because it's so obvious. But at the same time, she's told me that she can't just have normal relaxed conversations with guys most of the time, because they act weird. She's mentioned sometimes it makes her feel uncomfortable, so she'll just leave.

Because when you see a pretty girl your instinct is to impress her. The prettier she is the more likely she is to have a boyfriend or to be jaded because a million guys have already impressed her. At least that's what guy thinks.

IF a girl is pretty a guy knows it might be his opinion. If she's drop dead gorgeous then he knows it's not an opinion. SO he knows other guys like her too. And he thinks it's likely that someone has already made a successful pass at her. Or that she's heard everything you might have.

So even if that's not true a guy will assume it is and be conflicted

Well, the quick and simple answer is, if she's so beautiful, they shut up because they don't want to be caught saying something stupid that might stop them from getting a chance with her. In other words, they are insecure and lack the confidence to be themselves. Little do they know, if they just relaxed and were themselves when she was around, she might actually take interest in them.

What is she doing to make herself so noticeable? Is it the the way she does her hair/maekup, the clothing she wears, what?

She doesn't really do anything special to get noticed... She is really kind and always smiles, but has an edge to her. She doesn't dress like the typical girl, though... dresses and pink all the time. She's got a bit of a "rocker" look... super long wavy hair and wears black. She has a leather jacket that she loves to wear a lot. She does wear make-up, but not so much that it looks bad, it always looks good (her mom works in makeup, and her dad is an artist/biker dude, hence her style).

OK, got it. The guys are a little intimidated by her is my guess. Not like she might kick their ass intimidated, just that she is attractive and might be a little wild. Same answer as before though. You can't say anything stupid if you don't open your mouth.

this makes me think I'm ugly now..i have tons of guys tell me I'm beautiful all the time or that I'm "the most beautiful girl they've ever seen" and those guys are fricken GROSS and ugly and I'm very offended THEY think that they would ever have a chance with me. not trying to be mean, but really?!?!

Guys get nervous around girls they find attractive. It's that simple most of the time. Some people might have more serious problems though. A couple of years ago I used to get so nervous around pretty girls that I physically could not speak. I'm not sure if that's a common problem or not, but I don't think it is.

Does she get uncomfortable feelings about it? Usually this doesn't happen at all, unless there's a reason for it be happening. What kind of guys do this by any chance?

Well I think she just doesn't know what to do about it. She's told me that her co-workers (who are mostly guys) do that when she walks in the main office. We go to the same school, and a lot of the artistic guys do that around her... i.e. the musician type.

I have brothers... they do too. lol. It makes me laugh some times :) It seems like guys can just "shut down" and go blank, as to where girls get antsy and over think everything.

What do you think a girl could do in that situation to help a guy? There's a guy I really like who does this with me. He shuts down so much, I can't actually carry a conversation with him because he's so nervous. lol When I met him, I asked him his name, and he hesitated, like he forgot his own name. I wanted to make it easy on him, but it didn't seem like anything I did could help... It was really bad. lol
