can someone please explain to me? is it his age alone? if so how much older than the girl would make him a "father figure" or paternal?

does he actually have to be old enough to be her dad (which I find gross) or just considerably older? (say more than seven years older)

is it his age alone, or his behavior?

i'm 21 and I always seek out older men like late 20s or early 30s is what I prefer and I can't deny that a big part of it is that I feel more safe, secure, and taken care of by them than a guy my own age. and I like it when they look older than me. it comforts me.

A father figure boyfriend isn't just based on the age, it has to do with the personality of the person as well. Just as you described " I feel more safe, secure, and taken care of by them than a guy my own age. and I like it when they look older than me. it comforts me."

If a guy is mentally mature he will look out for his woman and children and ensure that everything is good for his family then he is a father figure boyfriend. Age should be relative to maturity level, but it really isn't the case at all times. You have 50 year old men who act like they're still in their 20's and women who in their minds think that they will be young forever and don't plan ahead.

Can you imagine a gold digger who was unable to get married because she didn't want commitment...she ends up being old and alone and penniless
